Which Zermatt ski pass do I need?
Zermatt Bergbahnen has introduced a dynamic pricing model for its ski passes, similar to that of airlines, theatres, football matches etc.
Instead of having fixed ski pass prices throughout the winter season, the exact price for daily and multi day passes will vary according to the seasonal period, volume of demand and capacity utilization at the ski resort. The earlier you book your holiday or ski pass the lower the price! In addition, if you purchase your pass online at least 5 days before your arrival you will benefit from a 5% discount on passes of 3 days or more.
The quoted prices are for adults, children will have the following discounts on the adult price:
- Children 0-8 years old inclusive ski for free,
- Between 9 and 15 years old (incl) at 50% price,
- Between 16 and 19 years old (incl) at a 15% discount.
- On Saturdays, children under the age of 16 ski for free
- The amount of the reduction depends on the date of birth
There are two main ski pass options, Zermatt only or International with Cervinia. We have listed them below with the starting price for a six day adult pass as a guide. For the full starting price list please click here. For flexible skiing during your stay you can opt for the 3 in 5 days or 4 in 6 days Flex Passes. For the very occasional skier there is the points based Easy SkiCard. And for non skiers or walkers there are special peak passes.
The refundable deposit of CHF 5 for the electronic keycard is not included in the prices below.
When staying in one of our luxury chalets you can pre-purchase your ski passes online in advance and we can then have them ready for you in your chalet when you arrive. Avoid the long queues at the ticket offices in the morning and get early up the mountain for those smooth first tracks!
1) International with Cervinia, starting from CHF 380 for 6 days – Skis Area: 360 km
This covers all of Zermatt, Cervinia, and Valtournenche.
This is the one we recommend. Not much pricier than the Zermatt only pass and you need it if you intend to ski on the Italian side for more than 1 day, or if you would like the option of doing the occasional run there when in the Klein Matterhorn area. In our opinion this is the one to go for, since it would be a pity not to sample la dolce vita at least once, and the greater flexibility is worth the additional CHF 8 per day compared to the option below. On some days the weather may be better on the Italian side and this gives you the flexibility to ski wherever the sun is shining the brightest!
2) Zermatt only, starting from CHF 338 for 6 days – Skis Area: 200 km
This limits you to all of Zermatt. The one to go for if you’re sure you don’t want to sample Italy. If you do decide to go across to the Italian side, you can get a one day supplement for CHF 42, which brings the total cost for the 6 days to a starting price of CHF 380, the same as a 6-day international ski pass!
Note that you should invariably get the International ski pass for children. Under the age of 10 the passes are free, but the supplement should you decide to go across is not. And they need passes covering Italy if in Cervinia. For children up to the age of 16, the extra cost of a 6 day international pass is CHF 27, but the supplement for 1 day costs the same as for adults, i.e. CHF 42. So probably worth getting the international ski pass for them.
And for the last category late teens we’ll let you do your own maths!
Zermatt Ski pass Insurance
You can add an additional Passprotect insurance for 3 Chf per day to cover reimbursement of your unused ski pass in the event of illness, accident or unfavorable weather conditions, or Skicare at 5 Chf per day for additional cover of expenses arising from an accident on the ski slopes (if your own insurance does not apply). The Easy SkiCard
The Easy Ski Card is perfect for the occasional skier! Only pay for what you use – that’s the advantage of the Easy SkiCard. Load up your card with points, and you’re good to go. Points are deducted from your Easy SkiCard account each time you use a lift. The maximum daily charge is 90 points. The more points you load the higher the discount! These are priced at 98 Chf for 100 points (2% discount), 282 Chf for 300 points (6% discount), and 450 Chf for 500 points (10% discount). A good solution for those who just want to do a couple of runs per day but not more.
Peak Passes
There is also the option to purchase a peak pass which is available only for walkers and excursion participants but not for wintersports participants. For individual journeys, you must purchase a single trip ticket at the bottom of the lift.
