We believe that this is the most comprehensive and accurate snow report for Zermatt that there is. The data are sourced from the SLF (Swiss Avalanche Research Institute) measuring stations, and from its Cervinia counterpart. The current snow conditions are below, you can also click on the relevant years to see the what your chosen week was like in the past. Today was the best powder day of the season so far, with bottomless floaty snow!!! And as is typical in Zermatt, we got fresh tracks and virgin powder fields all day long. Have a look at today's video.
There was a wonderful double low pressure system on the Alps yesterday which gave us 45cm of new powder snow on the top slopes near Italy, and 30cm lower down:
The result is that today most of us skipped Sunday lunch, there were just too many off-piste courses:
The last snowfall totalled 30cm on the top slopes, the weather then cleared yesterday afternoon and today Friday was a beautiful sunny day and our Matterhorn was resplendent:
It snowed all day yesterday Tuesday February 28th, and this snowfall is set to continue until tomorrow Wednesday March 2nd. Currently there are 15cm of fresh snow at Gornergrat, with high winds closing many of the upper lifts, do check in for an update tomorrow.
The Half-Term school holiday week just gone was absolutely perfect, with stable high-pressure weather conditions giving us constant sunshine and blue skies. Everyone from small kids to grand-parents had a great time, with grippy and crisp winter snow followed by al fresco lunches in the warm sun. And Zermatt being Zermatt, if you knew where to look, there were still some fresh powder tracks to be had off-piste:
This week was truly amazing, with three great powder days, the best was yesterday (Saturday) with 30-40cm of bottomless snow over on the Italian side. The off-piste was still very good on Hohtälli, but due to the weather closing in on Friday it had snowed on the southern flank of the mountain so that is where we headed. The high wind had hardened the snow on the Swiss Matterhorn side, while on the Italian side it was fluffy perfection. The advantage of being able to access both sides of the Alps. We have posted a few videos on Vimeo.
A significant snowfall last night and continuing today, cumulating in a week's total of 55cm on the top slopes. And the village of Zermatt has taken on a fresh white mantle as you can see in the webcam still below:
