The data are sourced from the SLF (Swiss Avalanche Research Institute) measuring stations, and from its Cervinia counterpart. 7th April 2012

It snowed a very satisfactory 30cm on April 5th, resulting in fresh powder on the top slopes and great heli-skiing. Both off-piste and on-piste conditions continue to be fabulous.

It snowed continuously for the last 2 days, resulting in 40cm of fresh powder on the ski slopes. Both off-piste and on-piste conditions are fabulous.

We had two snowfalls of 20 and 25cm this week, resulting in fabulous off-piste powder runs. The piste conditions are as good as ever and now that the school holidays are over the slopes are for your skis only as this image from today's Gornergrat webacam shows:

With the exceptional snow base from the last two months all runs are open with fantastic skiing conditions. More snow is due to fall next week which means that we are all set for fantastic long end of season into April and May.

The winter has brought yet more snow and the cold is preserving it perfectly. All lifts and all runs across Zermatt-Cervinia are open. There is snow all the way down to Lake Geneva now, where getting into your car can be a challenge…

Another big snowfall and the snow conditions in Zermatt continue to exceed all expectations. This is truly going to be a sensational season. Even the rocks in the river are covered by a meter of powder snow…

After 3 weeks of heavy snowfalls, there is now over 2 meters of fresh snow in the village and more up top. Powder skiing conditions are exceptional and the snow base will now last well into the month of May!

We have had a week of continuous snowfall with a total of 100cm of new snow on top of a base which was already good. This means that the skiing is better than ever and the season is off to the best start in a decade!

We have had three days of continuous snowfall which means that the skiing is better than ever! The villages are white, and in Zermatt the Gornergrat and Sunnegga areas have opened some of their slopes, which makes it possible to link all four areas. The best skiing is still to be had in the Matterhorn area bordering Italy, where almost all runs are now open.

The good snow is holding and the number of runs has doubled. We now have a total of 42 lifts, 50 runs, 1,600m of vertical and 117km of piste open. Both Cervinia and Valtournenche are open, as well as Gornergrat to Riffelberg. And there are no crowds – see the webcam image below of your private Gornergrat ski slope with perfect groomed corduroy:
