We believe that this is the most comprehensive and accurate snow report for Zermatt that there is. The data are sourced from the SLF (Swiss Avalanche Research Institute) measuring stations, and from its Cervinia counterpart. The current snow conditions are below, you can also click on the relevant years to see the what your chosen week was like in the past. And you can download our fully detailed spreadsheet of this season’s snowfall and depths.
The pistes are in great condition, with almost all of them open. Although we haven’t had much snowfall since the beginning of the year we still managed to find a bit of powder off-piste here and there. The weather has been spectacularly sunny and mild throughout, ideal skiing conditions.
Yesterday and today were simply glorious, with blue skies and streaming sunshine. With all the snowfall we have had, pistes are powdery and soft, the off-piste however was affected by the wind. Tomorrow Friday will see a weather front come through, bringing fresh snow. Thereafter the whole New Year week will benefit from stable anti-cyclonic conditions. Perfect skiing!
The last few days leading up to Christmas have seen turbulent weather with 100cm total snowfall since our last report. The higher lifts have recently been closed because of wind, but the skiing on the middle and lower slopes is outstanding with soft powdery snow on all runs and the off-piste is also good. It will snow again up to Christmas Eve, and then the skies will clear leading to perfect conditions on Christmas Day and thereafter.
We had a glorious day of fresh powder skiing on Saturday, then it snowed again all the way down to village level yesterday Sunday and now the weather is set fair for the coming week, simply perfect conditions!
The snow just keeps falling and the number of runs increasing. We can now ski all the way down to both Cervinia and Valtournenche villages on the Italian side, and down to Furi on the Swiss side. With 158km of open runs we have more skiing than anywhere in the Alps, North America, indeed the world!
As of the coming weekend of November 23d, on the Zermatt side the White Pearl run down to Furi will open, as well as most of the Valtournenche sector on the Italian side, the total kilometers of open runs thus going up from 71 to 138km.
This is a truly special start to the season, with a second significant snowfall in the space of 3 days. Runs are now open down to Furgg on the Swiss side, and all the way down to Cervinia on the Italian side. Time to start skiing to lunch again…
It snowed all night, totaling 125cm on the upper slopes and 50cm in the village. Even by Zermatt standards this is a truly exceptional start to the season. As soon as the runs are secured the lifts will open, with 26 pistes to ski on and 60km of fun.
It’s a good start to the season, typically early as it usually is in Zermatt. The link to Cervinia in Italy is open, and we have more open ski pistes than anywhere else in the world right now. More snow is forecast for the middle of the week, so next weekend should have some magnificent powder skiing.
The summer ski area on the glacier at the top of the Matterhorn Express is open every day, as is the link to Italy (for skiers only). Skiing is open from 08:00 to 13:00, the last ascent for skiers from the village is at 11:20 (12:20 from August 20th onward). In summer the snow conditions are similar to spring skiing, which means hard slopes early in the morning and slush in the afternoon. Between 10:00 and 12:00 the snow is lovely spring corn
