Snow Conditions

A big snowfall of 30cm yesterday on the Plateau Rosa (link toward Italy), and about 10cm lower down. All three areas on the Zermatt side are now open: Sunnegga-Rothorn, Gornergrat and the Matterhorn Paradise area; whilst on the Italian side several more lifts are now open. Temperatures are very cold and wintery.

As of yesterday the White Pearl run from Schwarzsee to Furi has opened, raising the total number of kilometers to 41 and the total vertical to 2,016m (Starting from Klein Matterhorn at 3,883m and finishing in Furi at 1,867m).

There was another good snowfall on Sunday, totalling 11cm on the slopes. The conditions are excellent, with grippy powdery snow on all pistes, a real pleasure to carve on.

We had another good snowfall on Sunday, with cold temperatures at all altitudes keeping things fresh. The Klein Matterhorn cable-car has reopened after maintenance, and the pistes down to Furgg are now also open, giving us a vertical of 1,450m, and 33km of runs.

There was a dusting of new snow yesterday and today the skies cleared to reveal perfect winter conditions. Your humble servant went up to see for himself, and found fluffy fresh powder snow to track. What a start to the season! The pistes are in great shape too with lovely grippy winter powder. And they're empty. November skiing is a dream, only possible in Zermatt.

More snow fell yesterday, resulting in the glorious conditions which you can see in the webcam images below, all taken today Tuesday November 7th:

This first weekend of November gave us the first significant snowfall of the season, with 35cm at the top and 3cm in the village.

The ski area now has 18km of runs, and has been extended down to Trockener Steg, with the opening of the Furggsattel Chairlift and the Theodul T-Bar and their associated pistes, which means that you can ski back to the top of the Matterhorn Express. The link to Cervinia is now also continuously open. The cold nights have enabled snow making to begin lower down, which is creating a good base for the next snowfall to settle upon. This use of man-made snow as a foundation is one of the key ways of ensuring that the pistes will remain in good conditions all the way through to the end of the season.

The last weekend of the season proved to be one of the very best! We (and everyone left in resort) tracked glorious fresh powder all day long on Saturday and Sunday. After two days of glorious sun, it snowed again today and the tree skiing on Schwarzsee was fabulous. Here are a few images from the weekend:
