Snow Conditions

It continued to snow all day yesterday, right down to village level where we have 25cm fo fresh snow, and 80cm on the top slopes.

Snowfall alert: 50cm of fresh snow at Testa Grigia, 22cm at Schwarzsee. Snowfall is set to continue until Friday, with the sun coming out on Saturday and Sunday. The last weekend of the season promises to be epic!

The third week of April saw winter temperatures return, but with glorious blue skies and sun. Snow conditions also returned to great winter grippy hard pack on the upper slopes, and soft spring snow down below. There was as ever some great off-piste to be found even though there had been no fresh snow for a while. Have a look at the video.

The week leading up to Easter was perfect, with glorious sun and blue skies. The snow was excellent too, off-piste there was a good mix of preserved powder and easy spring corn. All resort runs were open, and the piste conditions were winter packed powder between 3,800 and 2,500m, with smooth spring snow below. 35cm of fresh powder snow everywhere, and up to 70cm on the high slopes such as Triftji! The result of a big snowfall on Sunday, and with the sun coming out today, it was one of the best days of the season:

The biggest single snowfall of the season so far: 40cm at the top, 15cm at the base! 99cm have fallen over the last 3 day. Total snowfall so far this season: 508cm. Have a look at the videos here.

It has snowed for two nights in a row, the skies clearing on each subsequent day, giving us really good powder skiing conditions:

After a very sunny week, we had a bit of rain in the village yesterday, and 4cm of fresh snow on the slopes. Today is glorious again with great heli-skiing and beautiful uncrowded pistes:

We are in the middle of the perfect ski week, with continually blue skies and very good snow conditions. The Stockhorn – Triftji freeride slopes opened this week, as did the long Kumme run. As is usual in Zermatt, you can easily find fresh powder to track even a week after the last snowfall. Here is the evidence, an MX guest ripping it down near Gornergrat:

A second great powder day this week. Although it had rained up to 2,400m yesterday, it also snowed, and we had great powder for most of each run we did on the Stockhorn / Triftji freeride area. The bottom run outs were just a little heavy. We did 5 runs of 1,000 vertical metres each before lunch. Do also have a look at the video here.
